Area Green Space Plans ideas and options consultation

Your neighbourhood, your say

As the first step in implementing the council’s Parks and Green Space Strategy we are seeking your views on a series of Area Green Space Plan ideas and options papers which set out how all of Bristol’s communities can have better access to a range of quality parks, green spaces and facilities.

The ideas and options presented will help implement the aims of the strategy and make improvements that concern local residents most, such as:

  • providing new and improved children's play areas
  • improving accessibility, and
  • making spaces safer

We are asking for your views on these and to prioritise them if you agree. You can also tell us your own ideas for improving your local green spaces. Your views will help inform a final Area Green Space Plan for your area which will be adopted by the council next year.

Some plans also identify specific sites that could be sold for development to generate much of the cash needed to invest in and maintain our most important green spaces and protect them for future generations.

How to make comments

The public consultation will run until Friday, 29 October 2010.  There are 14 Area Green Space Plans available to view and comment on - one for each Neighbourhood Partnership area in the city. You can make comments by:

  • completing our online questionnaire for each Area Green Space Plan you are interested in
  • downloading our questionnaire and returning it to the address on the form

Site Allocations and Development Management Options Document

The Site Allocations and Development Management Options Document is also out to consultation until Friday, 29 October 2010. This document suggests specific sites in the city which may be developed to provide new homes, jobs or shops in your area. It also proposes land to be protected for open space, industry, nature conversation and shopping.

In addition there are ideas for new polices providing detailed guidance on issues to be taken into account when planning decisions are made. In terms of green space, while the Area Green Space Plans cover publicly accessible green space only, the Site Allocations will include consideration of a wider range of green space in the city including allotments and grazing land.

Visit the Site Allocations web page for details.
