Play Pathfinder
Introduction
Let’s Play! Successful Play Pathfinder bid brings £2.5m for Bristol’s play parks
Children and young people in Bristol are set to benefit from a massive £2.5m windfall, thanks to a successful city council bid to the government’s Play Pathfinder initiative. This cash boost will have a massive impact on play parks and play spaces across the city over the next three years. High quality outdoor play spaces have a significant impact on childrens' development and well-being so this money is particularly welcome.
Bristol’s Play Pathfinder proposals include:
- A high level strategic approach to play across the city
- Improving public access to provision
- An emphasis on inclusion, innovation, creativity, and natural play for children aged 8 – 13 years
- An involvement team to help children and communities participate in the design process
- An innovative adventure play space in St Paul’s
- Extend range and quality of existing play provision in destination sites at Blaise Castle Estate, Hengrove Park and Oldbury Court Estate
- Enhancements and improvements to existing play facilities at the city’s four adventure playgrounds
- Enhancements and improvements to existing play facilities at 24 neighbourhood parks throughout the city
- The creation and development of Play Watch – a group of sustainable community owned play areas throughout the city, with a special training programme.
- Providing innovative, creative, natural play opportunities for children aged 8 - 13 years
With the Parks and Green Spaces Strategy in place those areas where the investment is most needed have been identified and development work has already started. We are already consulting directly with children, young people, parents, carers, groups and communities across the city to find out what they would like to see in our parks and play spaces.
The money has been awarded thanks to strong and effective partnerships between the council’s culture, leisure, children and young people's services, parks groups, voluntary and local organisations as well as a strong policy background in relation to play and parks.
