Introduction

Netham Park and Pavilion is a major park and area of open green space in East Bristol with first rate facilities for leisure, social, sport and recreational activities.

The park has been in council ownership since 1951 and has recently received considerable investment to enhance the sport, recreational and leisure facilities to meet local community and citywide needs and aspirations.

Netham includes a number of football pitches for adult and junior teams, a cricket pitch, and an area for other sports such as lacrosse. The site includes a multi-use games area, and a separate bowls club facility with bowls green, changing rooms and clubhouse. There is a pavilion building at the heart of the park which houses changing rooms with hot showers for sports teams and officials, public toilets, a community room and kiosk, and staff offices. The park has been used for community events from music festivals to sport competition.

The park is next to the Feeder canal and the path along its edge is on a main cycle and pedestrian route into the city centre.

Green Flag AwardGreen Flag Award

As part of Bristol's Local Area Agreement to improve a number of parks in the city by 2010, Netham Park was selected to go forward for a Green Flag Award, which is a nationally recognised measurement of park quality and management. On July 28th 2010 it was announced that Netham Park had won its Green Flag.

Facilities

The cricket square on the lower plateau is the home ground for the Bristol Pakistani Cricket Club. The multi-use games area is floodlit and available for hire for sports training, matches and events. The community room is available for hire.

There is accessible parking outside the pavilion and ramped access to the lower plateau of the site.

Netham Park is open access, however the car park is available during the day and only in the evenings when the pavilion is in use.

There are currently no footpaths around the lower plateau so access is limited for wheelchair users. However, there are proposals to development a network of footpaths over the coming years. The Pavilion is fully accessible. A cycle path has been constructed on the old canal towpath as part of the Avon Valley Cycleway.
