Memorial Stadium - Aerial 3D Visual of the proposals

A planning application was submitted  for amendments to the regeneration of the existing stadium to provide:

  • a new 18,000 seated (18,500 capacity) stadium and ancillary accommodation
  • hotel (84 rooms)
  • 99 student flats (546 rooms)
  • restaurant
  • convenience store
  • offices
  • associated car, coach and cycle parking
  • landscaping, and
  • associated works.

The amendments referred to in the description of proposal above include:

  • the removal of a conference facility accommodation
  • reconfiguration of the student accommodation
  • reduction in the level of ancillary floorspace (hotel, office and retail facilities)
  • shifting of the position of the building away from southern boundary
  • removal of the basement accommodation
  • relocation of top floor windows of student accommodation to face outwards (as opposed to inwards as previously shown)
  • alterations to the roof design including enlargement of the roof trusses
  • general design alterations

The decision to grant permission was taken by the Development Control (North) Committee at their meeting on the 2nd April 2008.

On 4th January 2008 the legal agreement under Section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 was signed and planning permission issued for the redevelopment of the Memorial Stadium.
