Core Strategy Draft Development Principles Paper

Cover page

The Core Strategy Draft Development Principles paper is the fifth document published in developing the council's Core Strategy for Bristol. The paper sets out a series of draft ‘development principles’ policies, applicable to development across the city, which would contribute to achieving the overall aims and objectives of the Core Strategy.

The paper expands on policies outlined in the Preferred Options paper published in January 2008 and explains how the policies have evolved to reflect community involvement. It does not progress the emerging Spatial Policies set out in the Preferred Options Review paper published in February 2009; these will be updated having regard to comments during consultation on the Preferred Options Review in the Core Strategy Publication Document.

A Draft Development Principles - Sustainability Appraisal Update has been prepared to accompany the Draft Development Principles Document. The Update summarises the sustainability appraisal of likely significant social, economic and environmental effects of the 14 draft development principles.

The detailed appraisal of the effects are available to view in the Draft Development Principles -  Sustainability Appraisal Update - Annex 1.

Alongside the Draft Development Principles paper, a new component of the Bristol Development Framework Evidence Base has been published. The Bristol Citywide Sustainable Energy Study underpins the draft policies on climate change, sustainable energy and sustainable design and construction.

Consultation on the Core Strategy Draft Development Principles paper ran from 5 June 2009 to 17 July 2009. Responses received will be considered by the council, and the views expressed will inform the Core Strategy Publication Document. Responses to the Draft Developemnt Principles consultation are now available to download. A Draft Development Principles Consultation Report is now also available to download.
