Recycling in Flats

Mini Recycling Centres

MRCs

Mini Recycling Centres (MRCs) are usually placed at the bottom of blocks of flats or in households not suitable for our kerbside recycling services.

They are made up of a set of large bins that take the following:

  • Glass bottles and jars (rinse out and place the lids with your cans)
  • Newspapers and magazines (including catalogues, junkmail and leaflets, Yellow Pages)
  • Food and drinks cans (please remove lids and rinse)
  • Aluminium foil and containers

We are also introducing food waste and cardboard collections to this service - see below.

Reporting any problems

If you want to report anything to do with your MRC such as a bin being full, please get in touch with our Customer Services Centre

Food Waste and Cardboard Collections

Food waste and cardboard recycling is being introduced to flats across Bristol from Spring 2010. Alongside recycling your papers, cans and glass you will soon be able to recycle your potato peelings, leftovers and cardboard packaging. Look out for posters at your block of flats and staff who will be informing residents about the new service.

How does it work?

Food waste and cardboard will be collected from communal bins either near your recycling centre or waste bins.  For full information on each, please view the food waste and cardboard sections of this page.

Why are we collecting food waste and cardboard?

Food leftovers, peelings and cardboard make up over a third of household rubbish in Bristol.  By separating your food waste and cardboard you will reduce the amount going to landfill.  Instead your food waste and cardboard will be turned into compost that is used on farmland.

Please supply the contact details of your landlord / property management company / caretaker - so that we can ask their permission to put in a Mini Recycling Centre

Thank you for filling in this form. Your request has been added to the Mini Recycling Centre request list. When your request reaches the top of the list, you will be contacted in order to arrange a site visit to see if your location is suitable. After this site visit, and if the site is suitable, a Mini Recycling Centre should be installed within four weeks of the visit.

Please note that a Mini Recycling Centre will not be installed until a site visit has been completed. At the present time, there are over 100 sites requesting a Mini Recycling Centre, and we would hope to do a site visit within three months of a request being made.
