Bristol Green Capital
Bristol Green Capital
The Bristol Partnership has launched a new initiative to encourage all organisations in the city to take action to help make the city a leading UK green capital: a low carbon city with a high quality of life.
Bristol already has a reputation as a green capital based on the quality of our open space, the commitment of residents to greener lifestyles and the expertise of many organisations based here. But we all need to do more if we are to support a transformational shift in our communities and our economy towards a low carbon future.
Join us, the city's major strategic partnership, in pledging your organisation's support to achieve our ambition of making Bristol a leading green capital.

European Union Green Capital designation
Bristol was the only UK to be shortlisted to be Europe's designated Green Capital in either 2010 or 2011. We were shortlisted out of 35 cities across Europe to be one of the final eight cities in the competition.
The decision was announced on Feb 23rd at the award event in Brussels. Bristol was unsuccessful and the designation goes to Stockholm in 2010 and Hamburg in 2011. However the competition has resulted in a clear understanding of the action required in the city to make it a clear European leader of the green agenda. A firm commitment was made to work towards this goal by the Councillors, Business People and Senior Officers present at the event and the Bristol Green Capital initiative will continue to be the mechanism to achieve this.
