Disabled People
How we work out if we can help you
If you contact us to ask about help we'll:
- ask you about your situation and needs
- check to see if anyone else is willing and able to provide the help you need
- arrange an assessment if we think we might be able to help
- tell you if we do not think we'll be able to help - if that is the case, we'll provide advice and information about other ways you might get help
There are Government guidelines about who we can help.
- We have to use them to work out your needs and the risk to your independence.
- We have to find out if the risks you face are critical, substantial, moderate or low.
- We are only able help people whose risk level is defined as 'critical' or 'substantial'.
- We can provide more information about risk levels and how they are worked out when you contact us.
How to contact us
Telephone 0117 922 2700
Straightforward issues will be dealt with immediately, but callers may (with their permission) be called back during office hours. For people whose first language is not English, we will use a telephone interpreting service called 'The Big Word'. This will allow callers to be answered and helped in their own language.

Assessment
The assessment is how we decide, with your assistance, the needs you have and the level of risk you're at- Many assessments involve visits, but others can be done by telephone.
- You may have to wait for an assessment -this is because a lot of people contact us to see if we can help. We aim to see and help those who are in most need first.
- Assessments are free, but you may have to pay for other help.
