Home Care
What is Home Care?
- Home care - sometimes called domiciliary care - helps people to remain living independently and safely in their own homes.
- Home care workers can assist people with personal care. This includes help with getting up, washing and dressing and going to bed in the evening.
- Help with domestic tasks may also be available.
Who can receive Home Care?
Help from the city council:
- Everyone who needs help from the city council to continue living at home is first supported by the STAR service. The service lasts for up to six weeks, and will help us to assess your long term needs. Find out more about the Short Term Assessment and Re-ablement service (STAR).
Help from other providers:
- A number of organisations and agencies provide home care in the Bristol area.
- You can approach them direct to find our about their services and charges.
- They all have to be registered and inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
- To find our more about local registered agencies visit the CQC website. You'll need to search the site for "domiciliary care agencies".
Are there charges?
- We have an hourly rate for home care services. We will do a financial assessment to work out what you have to pay.
- Independent agencies will also charge an hourly rate.
