Taxis in Bristol
Taxis and Private Hire Vehicles are seen as an integral part of public transport and play an increasingly useful part of an integrated transport system.
In Bristol, there are approximately 712 licensed taxis (hackney carriages) and approximately 728 private hire vehicles. Taxis are distinguished by roof top signs and can be found at designated ranks or hailed in the street. They all have taxi meters where the tariff is set by the council. Private hire vehicles do not have a roof sign and must be pre-booked. They cannot be hailed in the street or picked up at a rank. The fares for private hire vehicles are not controlled by the council and should be negotiated before the start of your journey or when being booked.
