Bristol City Car Club provides an alternative to private car ownership. Members can simply hire cars as and when they need them.

The cars:

  • are booked through a central office using the telephone or internet
  • can be hired 24 hours a day for periods of as little as an hour at a time
  • are located at local "stations" within 10 minutes' walk
  • can be opened with your own personal Smartcard

City Car Club in Bristol is one of the biggest in the country with over 1,400 members using 46 cars. There are plans to increase the size of the network to 100 cars over the next 2 years. The club is operated by City Car Club and utilises a modern fleet of cars.

Why join Bristol City Car Club?

If you have a car that you only use from time to time or don’t own one but would like access to a car occasionally then joining a car club could save you money, hassle and improve the environment. More information can be found on the City Car Club website.

Costs at January 2010 are:

  • Annual membership fee of £50 
  • £25 per year for each additional driver.
  • Hourly rates start at £4.95 per hour. (For a £12.50 monthly payment you can reduce this rate to £3.96)
  • 30% discount available for bookings of 3 days or more
  • A £5 monthly fee reduces the standard insurance excess from £500 to £100.
  • Drivers aged 19 to 21 are required  to pay an additional £10 per month for a reduced insurance excess of £250.
  •  a mileage rate is charged for all journeys. This is variable, on a monlthly basis, in line with the current cost of fuel at the pump. Please see the City Car Club website for the current mileage charge.
