Become an eco-driver

Release Date:  11-Feb-2008

Bad driving habits can waste fuel, damage your car and cause accidents. Yet almost all drivers have developed some of them. Now Bristol City Council has teamed up with expert driving instructors at Road Safety UK to offer courses in Eco-driving for companies and individuals interested in cutting costs and improving safety and air quality.

Qualified SAFED (Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving) trainers will show participants how to drive in a more efficient and relaxed manner, helping to:

· reduce petrol consumption - saving around 10p a litre
· cut down on repair costs
· create a relaxed driving environment
· reduce accidents and insurance claims
· and reduce pollution and damage to the environment.

The three hour course is designed for groups of up to 10 people. They can run during standard working hours at a location in central Bristol, or on a visiting basis at participating companies (subject to numbers). Various dates are available until April 2008.

The first hour teaches the basics of eco-driving. This is followed up by a two hour, in-car practical session with a qualified SAFED trainer.  The cars used are provided by the trainer and are fitted with special fuel monitoring devices that can give immediate feedback on driving style. They show the improvements that can be made when participants change the way they drive.

The cost of the course is £60 plus VAT.  If you agree to fill in our feedback form there is a discount of £15 (if registering from a company this discount is only applicable to the first 15 people.  Those who complete the course receive a certificate and a detailed assessment report.

The council is looking for a limited number of people to carry out detailed monitoring of fuel consumption for a month before and after the course.  This would reduce the cost of the course by a further £10.

UK Road Safety is one of the leading UK companies for Fleet Driver Training and Driving Instructor Training.  All of their instructors are trained to Advanced Driving Instructor standards.
