Horfield Skate Park

Release Date:  28-Aug-2008

Young people from north Bristol have been busy putting their artistic talents to good use by creating new designs to brighten up the new skate park outside Horfield leisure centre.

The skate park opened just a few weeks ago and is already a big hit with young people in the area. Now, thanks to exciting art and design project, supported by the city council and led by experienced artists Andy Council and Adam Yeo the skate park is getting a new, brighter look.

The special art sessions at Horfield Skate Park are taking place this week from 10.30am to 1.30pm, culminating in a final painting session on Friday, August 29. So far, over 20 young people aged from ten to 17 have been involved in the project - but there’s still time for other young people to join in and get involved.

Councillor Rosalie Walker, cabinet member for culture and healthy communities, said: “It is wonderful to see the skate park being so well used. This new community facility is just what young people have been asking for and demonstrates our commitment to create better neighbourhoods for local people.

“And now we have a group of young people and local artists working together to make it more colourful and attractive. This will help give young people a strong sense of ownership and I’m sure their designs will inspire other young people to get involved.”

· The city council's youth service through the Positive Activities for Young People scheme has given £2000 towards this initiative to brighten up the skate park.
