Tennis opportunities in local parks
Release Date: 14-Aug-2008
Tennis courts in St George Park and Greville Smyth Park are now open following resurfacing and refurbishment works, thanks to Bristol City Council, the Lawn Tennis Association and the Community Club Development Fund from the lottery. To mark their re-opening, a special fun day of tennis has been planned for Saturday, August 16.
The aim of the court improvement programme is to encourage more local people to play tennis regularly and create better opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to access low cost professional coaching with LTA qualified coaches.
St George Park courts will be opened at 10am with a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the reopening. Representatives of the city council and the Lawn tennis Association will attend the re-opening. At the park, three courts have been re-surfaced and two courts have been re-painted to create a five-court venue for players to use. The opening will be followed by a two-hour, free tennis session for anyone aged five and over.
Greville Smyth Park courts will open at 2pm with a similar ribbon-cutting event. Here, two courts have been re-surfaced. These courts will be available throughout the year with the support of club coaching through LTA qualified coaches and club play sessions with Greville Smyth Tennis Club. The opening will be followed by a two-hour taster session open to the community.
· Other tennis courts in the city have been refurbished include: Eastville Park and tennis courts at the City Academy, Bristol.
