Exhibition celebrates 20 years of twinning

Release Date:  16-Jul-2008

Anyone looking to find out more about Bristol’s twinned Georgian city – Tbilisi – can visit Bristol Reference Library where a special exhibition: ‘The Falcon and the Unicorn’ will be on view to members of the public. The exhibition opens on Friday, July 18 at 11am and will run until October. It is part of Bristol’s celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of the signing of the twinning agreement between the two cities.

The exhibition, located on the top floor of the Central Library is free – and will give visitors the chance to explore the history and culture of Tbilisi.

Alix Hughes, Bristol International Twinnings Association (BITA) co-ordinator, said: "Most Bristolians know about the Bordeaux and Hannover partnerships, but do they know about Tbilisi? This is a chance to find out more about the last twenty years of successful twinning with the capital of Georgia. As the Georgians say 'Gaumajos' and here's to the next twenty!"

To celebrate the anniversary, there will also be Georgian children’s storytelling and craft sessions over the summer in local libraries on the following dates:

++ Saturday, July 26 - Bedminster Library (2.30-4pm)
++ Saturday, August 2 - Henbury Library (2.30-4pm)
