Learners get together to celebrate success

Release Date:  02-Jul-2008

Learners from across Bristol will be getting together at the council house on Friday 4th July to celebrate their achievements this year.

Bristol City Council's learning communities team work with adults, schools and community groups to help people who have few formal qualifications boost their learning. Up to 2,000 adults a year are supported back into education or employment through the team.

At the 2008 Citizen's Conference representatives from Cabot Circus, City of Bristol College, the Prince's Trust, the GMB and volunteering agencies will be on hand to help more people back into training and jobs.

Projects and people recognised this year include a animation project involving eleven dads who have not been involved in learning before at Bannerman Road Primary School and Airbus for their contribution to supporting two teams of parents and pupils build kit cars from scratch at Monks Park School and Henbury Court Primary School.

Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Cohesion and Raising Attainment Cllr Peter Hammond said:

“It is never too late to pick up on education or learning and find your way back into employment. The city council helps to train people in the community to provide this gateway for others and it is there contribution that we are celebrating at the 2008 Citizen's Conference."
