Second stage of consultation on Eastville Park set to start

Release Date:  16-Jul-2008

A further round of consultation on possible improvements for Eastville Park began on July 10, 2008 prior to the council submitting a Stage 1 application to the Heritage Lottery Fund.

A new exhibition, with more detailed proposals drawn from the many ideas and suggestions from the first round of consultation will be on display in the Bowls Pavilion on Thursday, July 10 from 1pm to 6pm, with officers on hand to answer any questions. After that, the exhibition will be open to members of the public until Thursday, July 17. It will then be available for viewing in Fishponds Library from Friday, July 18 to Friday, July 25.

Visitors will have a chance to comment on these detailed proposals, which will help inform the council’s final application bid for funding. The aim is to submit a bid at the end of September.

Key elements of the potential application could include some of the most popular suggestions, such as: requesting new resources for an on-site park keeper; improved sports and play facilities; a park café and provision for performance space and community events.

“This is an exciting time for Eastville Park,” says Councillor Rosalie Walker, cabinet member for culture and healthy communities. “It’s a beautiful park and open green space, and when you visit, you feel as though you could be in the countryside. It has huge potential and I’d like to thank everyone who took part in the first round of the consultation process. Their comments and suggestions have helped us draw up these more detailed proposals. What we need now is for local people to give us their opinions once again to make sure our application to the Heritage Lottery Fund correctly reflects their views and aspirations.

“Our aim is to work with the Heritage Lottery fund to develop Eastville Park into an outstanding community park and help create a better neighbourhood for the local community and the residents of the city as a whole.”
