New-look management team starts to take shape

Release Date:  11-Jun-2008

Bristol City Council's new-look management team is starting to take shape, with three appointments now made to the new strategic director posts.

The restructuring of the top management team at Bristol City Council is being led by new Chief Executive Jan Ormondroyd to support the authority's ambitious transformation and improvement agenda.

The new appointments are:

  • David Bishop, Director of Planning, Transport and Sustainable Development at Bristol City Council has been appointed as the new Strategic Director for City Development.
  • Annie Hudson, Director of Adult Community Care at Bristol City Council, has been appointed as the new Strategic Director for Health and Adult Social Care
  • Heather Tomlinson, currently Director of Children and Young People's Services at the council will become the new Strategic Director of Children, Young People and Skills.

The new posts of Deputy Chief Executive and Strategic Director Business Transformation have already been advertised and interviews will take place before the end of June.

The remaining two Strategic Director posts of Resources and Neighbourhoods will be advertised externally shortly, with a view to the new top team being in place before the end of the year.

Under the new arrangements, strategic directors will not only be responsible for running a department but will provide leadership for partnership working with government, other public bodies, communities and the private sector on key issues.

The strategic directors will also each have a defined corporate responsibility for driving forward specific changes and improvements in service delivery and performance across all departments.

Cllr Helen Holland, Leader of the Council, said: “Bristol is an improving council but to ensure we continue to progress at a rate that matches our ambitions we need a top team of officers to take a more strategic and dynamic role alongside other key agencies.

“I am pleased that we have already made these appointments and am confident that further excellent appointments will create a top tier of management which will drive change across the organisation, making a real difference to the services provided throughout our city.”

Jan Ormondroyd added: “Once finalised, the new-look top team will provide more effective strategic working with other public bodies and agencies - and deliver better corporate leadership of the council's staff.

“I expect our new top management team to be the best in the business and these first appointments are a really positive step forward.
