Behind the scenes at Bristol Museum and Roman Villa

Over the coming months visitors are able to get unique behind the scenes access to Bristol ’s City Museum & Art Gallery’s fantastic archaeology collections in a series of free store sessions.
 
The museum has thousands of objects in its stores and this is a fantastic opportunity to discover what treasures lie in the basement. Each free session is themed to a different period of history. Places are limited and must be booked in advance.

· On Sunday 11 May explore aspects of Romano-British life, discover and handle real objects from one of the most fascinating periods of human history.
· Saturday 14 June explores the objects and clues of life from Prehistoric times.
· Saturday 9 August journeys back to Medieval and Post-Medieval times where you can see objects from this period that have been discovered across the city.

Each session last approximately 30mins. Sessions run at 10.30am, 11.30am and 12.30pm. They are suitable for children aged 4 years plus - all children must have adult supervision.

Roman villa open days

Over at Kings Weston Roman Villa prepare to step back to the days of the Romans. Explore where they used to live - right on Bristol’s doorstep. See the only Roman bath suite in Bristol, mosaic floors and discover Roman central heating.

· On Saturday 10 May join us for Roman food and craft activities.
· On Saturday 12 July you will be able to meet a Roman soldier and enjoy craft activities.
· On Doors Open day on Saturday 13 September you can take a guided walk and handle some real Roman objects.

All villa open days take place from 10.30am to 4pm.
