Top marks for Bluebell Valley Nursery

Release Date:  19-Nov-2008

A nursery for 95 children in Lawrence Weston, Bristol has been classed as “outstanding” by government inspectors.

Ofsted visited the centre for three and four year olds which includes a resource centre for children aged up to seven with severe learning difficulties last month.

Highlights from the inspection:

  • although children have few skills expected for their age group when they enter the nursery they make considerable progress;
  • staff know the children exceptionally well and expect children to pay attention, work hard and behave well, which they do;
  • a wide range of resources and carefully planned and relevant themes mean that all children can relate to what they are being taught;
  • the environment is safe and secure which enables children to sparkle and learn very effectively;
  • children with learning difficulties or disabilities make excellent progress;
  • all staff are fully involved and fully support each other; and
  • leadership is outstanding

 Acting Deputy Head Jill Williams said:

"We are delighted with the recognition from Ofsted of the committment of everyone who is connected with the nursery.It was great to have the opportunity to share all the exciting things that we do in the nursery and the excellent progress that all childern make during their time at Bluebell Valley.As we enter a new phase in the development of the nursery we can now do so with great confidence and committment to ensure that oustanding provsion will continue to be provided for future generations of childern."

Chair of Governors Dr Bob Heath said:

“This report is a true reflection of the hard work, planning and commitment which goes into the children’s education and the vocation, skill and dedication of all the school staff.

“The next two years are going to be challenging ones for Bluebell Valley with the impact of amalgamation and a review of the funding of early years education by the Local Authority, but the staff and governors hope that, despite all the changes, nursery education for the children of Lawrence Weston will remain 'Outstanding'.”
