St Peter and St Paul Primary offers outstanding education
Release Date: 03-Jul-2009
St Peter and St Paul Primary School in Redland continues to provide an outstanding education for all its pupils, according to the latest independent inspection by Ofsted.
This brings the number of Bristol schools judged to offer outstanding education at their most recent Ofsted inspection to 32.
The inspector praised staff at St Peter and St Paul Primary for creating a warm, caring, rich learning environment, in which all pupils thrive. She said: “Attention to welfare is excellent and underpins the pupils’ outstanding academic and personal development.”
Other aspects of the school highlighted in the report include:
- overwhelmingly positive praise for the school from parents;
- outstanding teaching, with pupils reaching very high standards in their work;
- exceptional assessment of progress, with marking which gives pupils very good feedback;
- exemplary intervention programmes to support children experiencing some difficulties with learning;
- strong contribution from support staff to the high quality of learning;
- lots of topics to learn about, clubs to enjoy and visits to go on;
- maths is well taught and teachers make sure they spend time on things pupils find difficult;
- outstanding leadership and management at all levels.
Headteacher, Joan Sutcliffe, said: “We are delighted with our outstanding report. This is an outstanding school that provides an exceptional commitment to the Catholic ethos in all areas of school life. We are a vibrant, happy school, blessed with motivated families, enthusiastic learners and dedicated staff. Our children leave us willing and able to contribute to the society which extends beyond our school.The unifying bond of our faith provides a safe harmonious atmosphere where all children are well taught and cared for.”
Chair of Governors, Aidan Farrell, said: “This report is a tribute to the hard, hard work put in by every member of staff and the children at SS Peter & Paul. To get an 'outstanding' Ofsted is no mean feat; to get two 'outstanding' Ofsteds in a row is a considerable achievement. Joan Sutcliffe and her team should be congratulated on this excellent news and I am sure that we will see more of the same high-quality work in the years ahead.”
Though there were no major issues for improvement, to improve further, the inspector recommended the school adds time markers to development goals in the school development plan and further develops the national dimension of the programme for community cohesion.
