Summer fun at Blaise Castle House Museum
Release Date: 02-Jul-2009
Bristol’s Museums, Galleries & Archives will kick of its summer programme of family activities at Blaise Castle House Museum on Sunday 5 July by inviting families to get ‘Colour Crazy’ and join in with creative activities inspired by the museums weird and wonderful collections.
The activities take place in the museum’s beautiful picture room, restored to its Victorian splendour. Children can take inspiration from the artworks on display and explore their own artistic side to create collages and masks to take home. There will also be lots of interesting objects to investigate with handling activities.
While at the museum, families can take time to discover the rest of the 18th century mansion house, packed full of incredible objects and displays showing how people have lived since the 1700s. Children can imagine what it was like to open up and see inside a Victorian dolls’ house, play with tiny toy soldiers, wash in an old tin bath or even wear a beautiful Edwardian costume.
And if that isn’t enough, the museum is set in over 400 acres of parkland containing an adventure playground, café and castle – the perfect complete day out for everyone.
Highlights of the summer programme at the museum include: – Hands On…Going Underground, Tuesday 28 & Wed 29 July where families can explore the estate’s Iron Age past and on Tuesday 11 & Wednesday 12 August, children can make their own moving toys and discover toys from times gone by.
Hands On…Colour Crazy will take place at Blaise Castle House Museum, Henbury Road, Henbury BS10 7QS on Sunday 5 July. 10am-4pm. Entrance to the Museum and activities is FREE.
These popular free drop-in activities are run on a first-come first-served basis. Children must have adult supervision.
