Evening opening at Kingsweston Roman Villa
Release Date: 10-Jun-2009
Bristol’s Museums, Galleries & Archives are giving visitors a special opportunity to experience one of its oldest ‘houses’ after hours as Kings Weston Roman Villa holds its ‘Late Night at the Villa’ event on Wednesday, 17 June, from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.
The Villa was discovered in 1947 by Bristol schoolboy, George Boon, during the building of the Lawrence Weston housing estate. Visitors at the late night opening can enjoy looking at the remains of the house with a bath suite, under floor heating and mosaic floors as well as learning about the lifestyle of the people who lived there over 1600 years ago.
Gail Boyle, Archaeology curator at Bristol’s, Museums, Galleries & Archives, says: ‘This is a great opportunity for people who want to visit the villa but can’t make it to one of our weekend openings. Our team of curators will be on hand to answer any questions about the villa.’
