National Family Week in Bristol

Release Date:  14-May-2009

Bristol families get together to celebrate the UK’s first National Family Week, May 25 to May 31, 2009There’s a new national occasion to celebrate family life - National Family Week - and Bristol’s City Museum & Art Gallery will be joining in the fun. National Family Week is about bringing families together, recognising the importance of strong families and encouraging debate about the important issues that face families in the UK today.

Nationally, the week will feature a jam-packed schedule of events, activities and competitions run across the country to bring families together. It will be the largest coalition on family issues in the UK with over 150 charities, community groups, statutory bodies, schools, sporting and faith networks coming together to celebrate family life.

Families in Bristol can get involved by visiting Bristol’s City Museum & Art Gallery on Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 May and taking part in two days of FREE hands-on activity days inspired by the natural world.

Families can examine animal artefacts and create some animal wings, bird nests or animal masks to take home.  The activities take place from 10.30am to 12.30pm and from 13.30pm to 4pm.  The museum is a great place to get together as a family, with lots to see and do from Egyptian mummies and giant works of art, to scary dinosaurs and weird and wonderful wildlife. There is even a mini-museum for children under five to explore and play in.

· National Family Week has already attracted an incredible amount of support from over 150 national organisations, as well as celebrities, sports stars and political leaders, making it the largest coalition on family issues in the UK. The Prime Minister, Ed Balls, David Cameron, Nick Clegg and Boris Johnson are all supporting the week and families across the country are being invited to join in the action.
· National Family Week is also running a number of competitions including the search to find the UK’s all-time Favourite Family Recipe. To find out more visit the website.
