Book your place for Bristol’s local democracy week

Local people are invited to get involved with a series of free events organised by the council to celebrate national and European Local Democracy Week, October 12 to October 18, 2009.

The city council has organised three events, which help to shed light on how local decisions are made, what councillors do and how local people can get more involved.
The events are:

Who is the Council Anyway?

Bristol City Council - who are they and what do they do?
Come and find out more about how Bristol City Council works, what councillors do and how can you can have your say on the local decisions that affect you, your family and your community.
This event is jointly hosted by Bristol City Council and VOSCUR, as part of Local Democracy week 2009, this event includes a tour of The Council House and refreshments.

Date: Thursday, October 15 from 3pm to 6pm
Venue: The Council House, College Green, Bristol.

Participation Village at The Council House a drop-in event open to everyone

Local organisations are setting up stall at The Council House to create a ‘Participation Village’. They will be on hand to explain how local people can get more involved in local decision-making and answer any questions. This is a chance to find out how members of the public and local organisations can work together to make Bristol’s community and the city a better place to live and work and how you can play your part. Includes refreshments.

Date: Thursday, October 15 from 5pm to 7.30pm
Venue: The Council House, College Green, Bristol.

There will also be a special Local Democracy Week stall in Cabot Circus - opposite House of Fraser - on Friday, October 16, where members of the public will find information and advice about getting more involved.


Bristol Question Time Live!

A chance to ask questions and debate important issues facing Bristol. The panel will include the Leader of the Council, Councillor Barbara Janke, the leaders of the Conservative and Labour group on the council - Councillors Richard Eddy and Helen Holland, a senior member of Avon & Somerset Constabulary and will be hosted by an independent chair.

The live debate will cover a range of questions on issues and challenges facing the city. The event will be webcast (broadcast live on the internet - see link below) and will include online participation.

This event follows the Participation Village event, with a prompt start at 7.30pm.
