Stages 2010 arrives at Colston Hall this week

Stages, the annual dance festival for children and young people in Bristol, organised by the Bristol Arts and Music Service, will be at the Colston Hall this week.
More than 1,500 children, ranging in ages from five to eighteen years old, from 45 schools across the city, will be performing at the Colston Hall on Friday 5, Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 February.
This year, for the first time, there will be compering by drama and performing arts students from Ashton Park, Bedminster Down Schools and North Bristol post 16 centre, as well as dance performances in the new Colston Hall foyer before each show.
Stages producer, Shona Symons, said: “Now in its 14th year, the show illustrates the enthusiasm and skills we have in Bristol for dance and performing arts.
“Dance teaching in Bristol schools is of an extremely high standard, making Stages a very professional event. These shows are a tribute to the dedication and skill of all the children and staff who have worked for months to create some fantastic performances.”
This year, Kinesis, the Bristol gifted and talented schools dance company which takes part in the festival, has worked with some of the best and most respected choreographers in the country. This includes Hofesh Schecter and Yael Flexer. They are one of only two groups from Bristol selected to appear at the Udance youth dance england regional finals at the City Academy on March 13th.
