New website and email addresses

We're changing for the better

The council has now introduced a simplified website address: www.bristol.gov.uk and changed the way our email addresses are formatted. These changes reflect customer feedback and the growing importance of online services.

The old website and email addresses will continue to work for a limited period of time, however, we recommend you start using the new ones as soon as possible.

Website address change

Here's an easy summary of the changes

Old website address New website address
www.bristol-city.gov.ukwww.bristol.gov.uk
www.bristol-city.gov.uk/consultationwww.bristol.gov.uk/consultation

Redirects will still work

Some of our publicity includes a word added to the end of our website address which takes you to a specific area of the website e.g. www.bristol-city.gov.uk/recycling You can add these words to the end of our new website address and they still work e.g. www.bristol.gov.uk/recycling

Don't forget the old website address will only work for a limited period. You are recommended to start using the new website address www.bristol.gov.uk as soon as possible

Email address change

Our old email addresses used this format:

firstname_surname@bristol-city.gov.uk

It's now goodbye and good riddance to the underscore _ and the -city from our old email addresses.

You can use the new simplified format:

firstname.surname@bristol.gov.uk

Note the  full stop between  the firstname and surname and the new ending.

This makes for a shorter, easier-to-follow email address.

Old email addresses will work for until 1st May 2009. You are recommended to use the new email addresses and to update any address books you have.

What you need to do

  1. If you have any favourites for our website in your browser e.g. Internet Explorer, please update these to the new website address.  You could amend these favourites or create a new favourite and delete the old one.
  2. If you have council officers stored in your address book e.g. Outlook Address Book or in another email system, please update these to follow the new email format

If you have any difficulties with this, please consult the help section of the software or contact your software manufacturer.
