The Statistics and Census Information pages contain a wide range of information about the City of Bristol, its population and geography. Much of this information is used by the council as evidence on which to base its plans and policies.

Within this section, you can look at facts and figures relating to the population of Bristol, quality of life, employment, the economy, land use and development. Information has also been collated to provide profiles of particular areas. Finally, there are links to the websites of other information providers.

General Resources

2001 Census Statistics

Here a range of information can be found about population and households in Bristol from the 2001 Census.  Included are briefing papers, summary statistics for Bristol, tables looking at particular themes and Key Statistics for wards. More specific analysis of population (estimates and projections), deprivation and labour markets can be found below under "In depth Information and Analysis".

Spatial Atlas

As part of the spatial planning process, the council has gathered evidence from a wide range of sources to compile a supporting document called the "Spatial Atlas". Some of the information contained in the Spatial Atlas relates to studies carried out or commissioned by the council that are detailed in the sections below.


Area Based Information

State of the Neighbourhoods (SON) Database

State of the Neighbourhoods (SON) is a database developed to support the delivery of regeneration in Bristol. The database contains data for priority neighbourhoods covering Crime, Economy, Education, Environment, Health and Quality of Life.

'Map-based' datasets (including time series) that cover Crime, Economy and Education for neighbourhood (Super Output Area - see note), ward and Neighbourhood Partnership geographies have been added recently.

Ward Finder

If you wish to know about a particular place in the city, Ward Finder will help you to identify the relevant area and obtain information based on electoral wards and “Super Output Areas” .


In depth Information and Analysis

Land Use and Development

This page features a suite of research documents, reporting the results of studies carried out by the council to support local and regional planning policy (see also "Spatial Atlas" above). Key themes are housing development, business development, the future availability of development land and the role of retailing in Bristol.

Retail

Details and results of a recent Citywide Retail Study, which examines the current and future role of retailing in Bristol and forecasts future need.

Quality of Life

This page provides annual reports for the survey of Indicators of the Quality of Life in Bristol. The survey aims to measure and promote sustainable development in the city by assessing the quality of life of Bristol’s inhabitants.

Population Estimates

This page provides population estimates for Bristol, broken down by age, gender, and geographical area.

Population Projections

This page provides population projections for Bristol, broken down by age and gender.

Deprivation

This page provides statistics, maps and analysis of deprivation in Bristol, illustrating the contrasting socio-economic conditions that can be found across the city. The Indices of Deprivation are based on key issues such as income, employment, health, education, and crime.

Labour Market and Employment
