Scientific services

The purpose of the Scientific Service is to protect the public from unfair or unsafe trade practices and to promote good health and clean environment for the benefit of local citizens and businesses.

We operate in four key areas:

• food standards
• consumer safety
• environmental protection
• health and safety at work

Our Public Analyst Laboratory provides a scientific advisory and analytical service to local government, central government and the private sector.

We are located in a modern well-equipped analytical laboratory in the centre of Bristol. We are a lead authority and are contracted to provide a scientific service to Bristol, Bath & North East Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Councils.
