Residential care - adult

Introduction

Care homes can provide a place to live with personal or nursing care for people who can no longer live in their own home.

Finding a home

Bristol and Area Care Home Guide

This is a guide produced by local councils to provide advice and lists of homes. Local home care providers - that can help people continue to live at home - are also included.

Download the care home guide (PDF)

You an also search for a home on the Care Quality Commission web site.

Advice on choosing a home

Read our leaflet: Choosing a Residential Home leaflet, HSC52, in the links below.

Contact us. Choosing and moving into a care home is a big decision. If you are thinking of moving into a home you should contact adult care services. We may be able to assess your needs and situation and help you find out what is best for you. We may also be able to help you consider other options like getting more help to continue living in your own home or if another option - like sheltered housing or very sheltered housing - might be available and suitable for you.

Read Care Quality Commission Inspection reports - they register and regularly inspect homes. The CQC can provide the latest inspection reports for homes and up-to-date lists of local homes. To get a report, first search the CQC web site - see link below, and order online or call 0870 240 7535.

Costs

There are fees for living in all care homes.

Social workers are responsible for doing a financial assessment for anyone considering going into one of our homes. This assessment will show the weekly cost of living in a home.

Depending on your financial circumstances we may be able to contribute to the cost of a placement in a private home. See our leaflet Residential Care Charges HSC37 on our charges page.
