Disability sport
We are dedicated to providing a wide range of disability sports across the whole of the city and offer an ever-expanding programme of activities.
Working in partnership with local sport clubs, we are continually helping them to develop their clubs to become more inclusive.
We are also working with Sports and Leisure Management Limited (SLM) to develop disability sport across all leisure centre sites.

Ability football sessions
- When: Sunday mornings

Buds and Suds

Sportability
Sportability, a registered charity, provides sport and challenging pursuits for people with paralysis around the UK . More information can be found at the Sportability website.
Inclusive fitness initiative
The Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) is a Sport England Lottery funded project that supports facilities to become inclusive, catering for the needs of disabled and non disabled people alike.
The scheme concentrates on several areas:
Inclusive facilities
Ensuring that facilities relating to fitness are accessible which includes assessing the journey a customer would take to use the fitness facilities.
We currently have four leisure centres that are IFI accredited:
Inclusive equipment
Ensuring that the majority of disabled people are able to access a full body workout.
Inclusive training
Ensuring that staff understand the needs of disabled people and work within an inclusive nature.
Pool accessibility
Below is a list of council pools providing disability access within Bristol
- 1 disabled changing room containing 4 lockers, shower, toilet and wash basin
- 1 Oxford Dipper hoist
- Accessible ramp to main building
- 1 disabled changing room

- Improved hoist system to be implemented in 2011
- 1 disabled changing room with radar key access, toilet, sink and shower
- 1 height movable bed with adjustable rail, remote controlled.
- 1 oxford dipper hoist in main pool with removable wheelie chair.
- 1 disabled changing room/shower/toilet - no lift/hoist or bed
- 1 Arjo Otter chair hoist in main pool
