How to book
All workshops and independent visits to any of the museums sites must be booked in advance. We recommend early booking in order to have your choice of dates. Groups of 10 or more people are required to book as a group visit. Contact the learning department using the details on the right hand side.
Please include the following details in your email: name of school, teacher, workshop title, preferred date, year group, size of class and if you require a lunch room.
If the office is unattended there is an answerphone. Please leave your name, school, telephone number, and an outline of your query. If an Officer is not available your message will be forwarded, and the relevant person will get back to you as soon as possible.
Welcome pack and booking confirmation
When you have booked a visit, you will be sent a welcome pack, containing material to help you and your group prepare for the visit. The pack will include a booking confirmation sheet and details of any workshops. Please check that the details on the booking confirmation sheet are correct and contact us immediately if any changes are needed.
Before your visit you must confirm and pay for your workshop session.
Booking the lunch room
The only Museum with indoor facilities for groups to eat a packed lunch is at Bristol Museum & Art Gallery. When booking a visit at this museum, please ask to reserve the designated eating area, which is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Cancelling a visit
We need at least 21 working days for cancellations of any booked session or a charge will be made at the full rate.
A £25 booking fee will be charged for any changes or cancellations.
Please send changes or cancellations by email to the learning department.
Preparing for a visit
Please read your welcome pack in advance of your visit and bring it with you on the day. You will need the booking confirmation sheet to assist the entry of your group.
Clipboards can no longer be used in our museums because of the risk of damage to the collections. If children are taking part in activities outside of the Schools Room, please ensure they bring along an A4notebook to support papers.
Supervision
Under 16's must be accompanied at all times. A ratio of one adult to six children is recommended for KS1 and KS2 groups. A ratio of one adult to 10 children is recommended for KS3 and KS4. The minimum requirement for all groups is 1:10.
Group sizes
The Red Lodge Museum and The Georgian House Museum can only accommodate one class at a time (approx 30 pupils). Blaise Castle House Museum is limited to two classes.
Costs
For workshop prices please contact the learning department.
How to pay for your session
Workshop sessions must be paid for in advance on receipt of your booking confirmation sheet. Cheques should be made payable to Bristol City Council. Bristol City Council schools need to provide a cost code so payment can be made electronically. All sessions are VAT exempt. Invoices are only generated on request.
