Neighbourhood Transport Initiative

About the Initiative

Do you have a good idea for improving transport where you live? Then you might be eligible for a Neighbourhood Transport Initiative (NTI) grant from the Council.

The fund aims to help communities develop their own transport related projects. Before you apply, consider these important points about the fund:

  • The Initiative offers grants of up to £5,000
  • Ideas must contribute towards one or more of the council’s transport objectives (see Guidance Notes in the application pack)
  • It can fund one-off schemes or help with the start-up costs of projects
  • It cannot support continued running costs
  • It cannot fund traffic-calming schemes.

Examples of previous schemes include a book of city walks, the Streets Alive! events, rickshaw hire for a community arts festival, help for school travel plan groups, healthy walking groups and providing benches as rest stops to encourage walking by older people. If it improves transport in your local area, you could be eligible!
