The Secretary of State appointed Mr Simon Emerson BSc DipTP MRTPI, of the Planning Inspectorate, to conduct the Examination into the compliance and soundness of the Core Strategy.
The Examination is now concluded. The completed stages are summarised below.
Inspector's Report - April 2011
The Inspector's report into the examination of Bristol's Core Strategy has now been received. The report contains the Inspector's recommendation that the submitted Core Strategy is sound and should be adopted, subject to changes, including the reasons he has come to this view.
Consultation on Potential Significant Changes
Consultation on potential significant changes to the Core Strategy arising from the examination process started on December 17, 2010 and ran until January 28, 2011. The consultation has now closed. For more information see the Consultation on Potential Significant Changes web page.

Pre-Hearing Meeting
A Pre-Hearing Meeting took place on Tuesday 11 May 2010 at The Council House, College Green, Bristol BS1 5TR at 11am.
The purpose of the Pre-Hearing Meeting was to explain and discuss procedural and administrative matters relating to the management of the Examination, including the programme for the hearings, the Matters to be examined and related questions, the running order and participants, the methods of dealing with representations, the timetable for submitting statements, and any other relevant matters.

The meeting was to explain how the Examination process will proceed - the content and merits of the Core Strategy and the representations were not discussed at this meeting.
