Introduction
There is a wide range of popular fiction in hardback, paperback and large print. We have separate sections for crime, fantasy, horror, romance and science fiction as well as general fiction from A to Z.
We also have a range of fiction in languages other than English. There are a substantial number of books in French, German, Italian,Spanish, Urdu, Hindi and a smaller numbers of books in other languages.
You can search for authors and titles and reserve books on the LibrariesWest catalogue.
Fastbacks
Features of the collection:
- Novels in the Bookseller’s top 10 original fiction lists are received automatically as they enter the charts.
- You keep them for one week only, making them swiftly available for others to borrow.
- Non reservable.
- Non renewable.
- Overdue charges at the standard rate.
- For those who prefer a more leisurely read, copies will also be available for the usual loan period.
Large print
For people who find books with traditional print difficult to read we have a wide range of large print fiction and non-fiction titles available.
Adult literacy
- Basic skills collection covering literacy and numeracy including Quick reads. These are short, fast paced books by best-selling writers. They are easily readable stories designed for everyone, including adults with limited literacy skills and reluctant readers. They are also perfect for people looking for an introduction to reading or regular readers who want a bite-sized book.
- Barrington Stoke books are especially written for people with dyslexia. They are 'accessible, enjoyable and unpatronising' and avoid the use of known trip-up words. Originally for children, they now include titles for adults.
- Learning English as an additional language. This includes a wide range of material for the TOEFL and IELTS examinations.
Children and young adult
Fiction books for children and young adults are in the Children's Library.
The young adult books are in their own area and can be borrowed by anyone with a Young Adult (or Adult) ticket. People with a Young Adult ticket can also borrow books from the adult section.
