At home service
For people who are unable to visit a library, there is an 'at home' service available, where staff bring books to your home. We visit every eight weeks to exchange the books.
We will ask you what you like to read and leave a crate or bag of books to match. On each visit we will give you a card that tells you when we will call next time.
Sheltered accommodation and nursing homes
We visit sheltered and nursing accommodation every eight weeks and leave a large selection of items including large and ordinary print books and spoken word tapes and CDs. How many items we leave depends on the number of people who live there. There is a request service available and a next visit sign with contact numbers will be placed near the books.
Independence bus in Bedminster
We have launched a pilot project with Bristol Community Transport (BCT) and Bedminster Neighbourhood Partnership to offer a community bus service to local libraries. The fortnightly scheme will stop in the Bedminster, Ashton, Highridge and Southville areas of the city, before reaching Regent Road to the rear of Bedminster Library. The bus will then return later to drop passengers off at the same pick up points.
The Independence bus is for people who want to visit Bedminster Library, the pharmacy next door, or do their shopping at ASDA. The route also covers areas where public services and transport are often less accessible. Concessionary bus pass holders can travel for free, the fare is £2 for other passengers. For more information e-mail the Bristol Community Transport Officer call 0117 902 0157.
The service will run every two weeks to Bedminster Library, 4 St Peter's Court, Bedminster Parade, Bristol BS3 4AQ.
