Bristol City Council have combined with Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire councils to form a larger, area-wide free car share scheme - www.2carshare.com. With more people covering a wider area there is now even more chance for you to find a convenient car sharer.
By car sharing you're helping to reduce congestion in the city, making your journey to work quicker and helping reduce air pollution - not to mention saving significant amounts of money (around £1000 per year). Remember, you don't have to own your own car or even be able to drive to become a member or 2carshare.com and carshare. Neither do you have to carshare every day to make a difference. If everyone who regularly drives to work alone shared a car just twice a week, the improvement in congestion alone would be huge.
Many employers operate private groups within the system to provide a secure service for like-minded members of staff travelling similar journeys. Or if you like, you can open up your search to all registered participants within all four authorities.
It's easy to join and free - all you need to do is sign up at www.2carshare.com or on the council's Intranet? It's quick, easy and anonymous. There are lots of tips on ways to make the scheme work for you, and a comprehensive FAQ section, so give it a try today. Some employers, operate preferential car parking arrangements for car sharers, or 'Emergency Get You Home' schemes should your car sharing lift fail. You can also take advantage of the high occupancy vehicle lanes that operate on some of the roads serving Bristol getting you to your destination even quicker.
