Introduction

Another one of Bristol's fine large Victorian suburban parks. The size, fine trees and variety of wildflife make this park one of the city's favourites.

Access

St George Park is open 24 hours. There is a car park in nearby Chalks Road, St George.

Art and architecture

Only the original Victorian entrance gates remain from the splendid collection of ornamental structures built for the park during the 19th century.

Community, clubs and associations

There is a Friends of St George Park community group consisting of residents that live around the park. The group's aim is to work with the community and the council to improve the facilities of this very popular park. Developments

Following the successful launch of the TreeBristol project in Canford Park in 2005, Bristol Parks and its partners Trees for Cities and the Forest of Avon  built on that success by holding a community planting day at St George Park when over 70 trees were planted. The event was supported by HSBC, Trees for Cities' first national corporate sponsor. Find out more about TreeBristol.

Events

Bristol's parks host hundreds of events each year from keynote festivals and performances in the city's magnificent green spaces, through sporting events and charity fundraisers, to smaller scale community events in local parks. Fishing

Fishing is permitted at the lake in St George Park within the designated areas marked on the path around the lake. Individuals should have an Environment Agency rod licence and are subject to the agency's regulations. Play

The park features a dog-free playground, a large wheels park and basketball hoops.

Sport

St George Park has tennis courts offering tennis coaching courses. Find out more about sports pitches.

The St George Bowling Club and the Bristol Omnibus Bowling Club are both based in the park.
