Summer of Ping! Bristol - the Legacy
Release date:
Fri, 14/09/2012
Although the summer of Ping! Bristol is now over, the legacy for the city will help all ages enjoy table tennis for years to come.
Bristol now has 14 new permanent concrete tables in parks and open spaces and 23 tables have been donated to a variety of organisations that will keep them available for all to use.
Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Guy Poultney, said: “The legacy of Ping! Bristol will see the spirit of friendly and competitive table tennis live on in the city.
“We’ve had more than 55,000 people taking part through the 10 weeks and it has built up a strong social media following. I would like to thank everyone involved in making it a success and congratulate those successful in bidding to run the legacy tables.”
City of Bristol College is one of the organisations who successfully applied for a legacy table at their Ashley Down centre.
Les Caunce, Director of Human and Physical Resources at City of Bristol College, commented: “City of Bristol College is delighted to have had four Ping Pong tables donated as part of the legacy of this summer's street Ping Pong Project. It’s fantastic to offer our students, staff and visitors the opportunity to enjoy the fun of table tennis.”
If you took part in Ping! Bristol over the summer, please spare a few minutes to complete our feedback survey online and we'll enter you into a prize draw to win your very own ping pong equipment www.bristol.gov.uk/pingbristol
We hope to attract funding for similar social sports events in the future, so you're feedback is greatly appreciated.
