Bristol celebrates National Libraries Day
Release date:
Wed, 01/02/2012
Families across Bristol can celebrate National Libraries Day on February 4, 2012 by visiting their local library and taking part in a day of activities, reading events and workshops.
In the build-up to the big day, library-themed story times will be promoting a special 'I love my library' competition. The competition encourages children to share - either with a drawing or in writing - what they love most about their local library with book prizes for the winners.
Among the many events planned for Saturday, February 4, are two 'Revolting Rhymes and Recipes' workshops for children aged seven to 11 at Southmead and Bedminster Libraries. Children attending will get an opportunity to listen to revolting writing, enjoy some snacks, hear a story and make their very own mini book. Both sessions run from 10am to 11.30am and bookings can be made through the library for just 50p per child.
Meg Humphries, from Bristol Libraries Children's Team, said: “We are delighted to invite children to these very special workshops and story times. The events aim to celebrate the value of visiting the library and sharing books and the huge benefits this can bring to children and families.”
Adults are also being encouraged to join in on the big day by organising their own book readings, coffee mornings or story times at their local library. Further details on how to get involved are available from Andrew Cox, libraries reading manager, Tel. 0117 922 2180.
