Youth support
Welcome to Youth and Play Services
Bristol City Council's Youth and Play Services (YPS) provides a range of services to meet the personal and social development needs of young people.
Our key principles are:
A future worth working for
Youth and Play Services gives children and young people a stake in their own future. We help them to get their voices heard and to make a positive difference to their own lives.
Breaking down barriers
We’re working with some of the most marginalised children and young people in Bristol. By listening to them and responding to their needs, we’re breaking down the barriers that stop them making more of their lives. We are helping them to develop personally and socially and to deal with issues like teenage pregnancy, drugs and racism. And we are making sure they understand how they fit in with their communities and the people around them.
Creating opportunities
Every child and young person should be able to enjoy a range of social, educational and cultural opportunities. We are encouraging them to take part in volunteering and community activities, to gain qualifications and recognition through out of school/college learning and even to help plan, deliver and evaluate our services.
Securing voice and influence
We’re making sure children and young people have the confidence to make their voices heard by providing training and support through youth forums and other initiatives. We are also supporting organisations like The Listening Partnership for Disabled Young People.
Helping Bristol grow
Children and young people have a vital and energetic role to play in the cultural life of Bristol. We want them to see cultures as fun, exciting and challenging, something they want to be part of and something they can influence. Indeed, the city’s unique culture can grow and develop along with its children and young people.
We’re better together
Partnerships are essential to what we do. Youth and Play Services invests in, and works with, voluntary and community groups to provide essential services, resources and support for children and young people’s development.
