Coronavirus (COVID-19): small business, retail, hospitality and leisure grant funds

Who can get a grant, types of grant and how to apply for one.

We aim to process new applications for grants within 2 weeks. Complex cases may take longer. Please don't reapply if you're already applied.

In response to coronavirus (COVID-19), the government announced support for small businesses and businesses working in these sectors:

  • retail
  • hospitality
  • leisure

There are two grant funding schemes:

  • £10,000 under the Small Business Grant Fund
  • either £10,000 or £25,000 under the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant Fund

You'll be eligible for either the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant or the Small Business Grant, not both. If you think you meet the criteria for both grants, apply for the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant.

  • if you share space within a business rate building and you’re not the ratepayer
  • if your property is not rated for business rate purposes, for example if you’re working from home
  • if you’re a supplier to the retail, leisure and hospitality sectors
  • if the business was in liquidation or was dissolved on 11 March 2020, or if the business started trading from the premises after 11 March
  • if the rateable value of the property is over £50,999
