Apply for a lottery licence if you’re a non-commercial society

Apply for a small society lottery licence, which is required by any non-commercial society organising a lottery where tickets are sold in advance.

A society is non-commercial if it’s for sports, cultural activities, charitable causes or any other non-commercial purpose.

Apply for a non-commercial lottery

This is a called a small society lottery.

You must complete and return the non-commercial society lottery registration form: small society (word doc, 43KB) (opens new window) .
Post the completed documents to: 
Licensing Team (Temple Street), Bristol City Council, PO Box 3399, BS1 9NE.
You can also hand in the documents to the Citizen Service Point, 100 Temple Street, Bristol BS1 6AG.

Cost of non-commercial lottery licence

The fee is £40 and the licence lasts for one year. 

You must include a cheque made payable to Bristol City Council.

After the lottery draw: return statement

Once the small society lottery has taken place complete and send back to us the small society return statement (word doc, 67KB) (opens new window) .

This statement must be submitted no later than three months, beginning on the date on which the draw, or last draw, in the lottery took place.

Renew your non-commercial lottery licence

When your licence is close to expiring we'll send you a reminder with a renewal form.

If you want to renew your licence then complete and return the renewal form to us (word doc, 21KB) (opens new window) . The renewal fee is £20.
