Filwood housing developments

Filwood housing developments

Information on new housing developments in Filwood.

We're planning to develop three sites in Filwood for residential housing. These sites are currently planned to include a mix of council homes and affordable housing tenures such as shared ownership.

The sites are:

  • Filwood Broadway
  • Leinster Avenue
  • Kingswear Road

Following consultation for all three sites in 2020, a planning submission for the construction of 71 homes at Leinster Avenue was submitted in July 2020 (Ref 20/03297/F).

Information on the application can be found on the planning portal

Kingswear Road public consultation

The second round of public consultation for Kingswear Road is now closed.

The current proposal is for 34 new homes, which will be a mix of shared ownership and social rent. The housing will feature a mix of 2 and 3 bed terraced houses and 1 and 2 bed apartments arranged around a central green space.

Filwood Broadway public consultation

In December 2019 we held a first round of public consultation on the draft design options.

A second round of public consultation is now closed.

Overview of proposal

The current proposal is for 30 new homes. 26 will be accessible.

The design includes:

  • 13 two and three bed terraced houses
  • 17 one and two bed apartments on upper floors of two new buildings

There will 595 square metres of flexible community and commercial space for community use, shops, cafés and the possible relocation of the public library.

The development will also include a new public space facing onto Broadway and new trees and planting.

There will be vehicle access from both Filwood Broadway and Barnstaple Road, along the new residential street. Pedestrian and cycle access only from Hartcliffe Road.

Key feedback from the previous consultation has been addressed where possible.

This consultation is closed.

Demolition of former cinema

We have started to demolish the former cinema.

The first phase involved:

  • the removal of asbestos and internal stripping out of the former cinema building
  • preparing the structural works required
  • securing the site

We’re currently out to tender for the remaining demolition and site clearance. Residents will be updated when this work is due to start.
