Statement of Gambling Policy

One of the requirements of the Gambling Act 2005 is for the council to produce a Statement of Gambling Policy setting out how gambling will be regulated.

You can obtain a paper copy of the statement from the Licensing Team by writing to us at:

Gambling Policy

The current Statement of Gambling Policy 2016 (pdf, 409k) (opens new window)  (opens new window)came into effect on 31 January 2013 which the council are required to review the policy every three years. 

The key objectives of the current policy are to:

  • to prevent gambling from being a source of crime and disorder
  • to enable gambling to be conducted in a fair and open way
  • to protect children and other vulnerable people from gambling. It covers betting, gaming, casinos, lotteries and bingo.

The City Council recognises the need to both protect vulnerable people and to support the local economy in order to maintain the City’s position as a regional centre.

Grant of a premises licence

Applicants are required to serve a copy of their application and accompanying documents on the Licensing Authority and a copy of a notice of the application on all responsible authorities.

Please be advised that Form A should be completed if there is a single applicant and Form B when there is more than one applicant.

Applicants are required to advertise their application both on site and in a local newspaper or if there is one a local newsletter, circular or similar document which is circulated within the Bristol City Council area. Under Gambling Act 2005 the notice is in a prescribed form.

Variation of a premises licence

Applicants are required to serve a copy of their application and accompanying documents on the Licensing Authority and a copy of the notice of their application on all Responsible Authorities. Form A should be completed where there is a single applicant and Form B completed when there are more than one applicant.
