What the Ashton Court poetry competition is, how to enter, terms and conditions.
We’ll be opening our newly renovated Coach House at Ashton Court Estate on Saturday 1 May 2021.
The Coach House will have:
- an ice cream bar
- a takeaway coffee bar
- an events space, with new information panels about Ashton Court Estate and its history
Created in collaboration with Bristol Museums, the Coach House will reveal the secrets of the house, the estate and the people who lived in it, with new information and activities.
To celebrate the opening of the Coach House, we’re running a competition and inviting people to submit a poem about Ashton Court Estate between 1 April and 31 May 2021.
The Ashton Court poetry competition
There are two categories:
- one for people under 18 years old
- one for people over 18 years old
The winners of both categories will:
- have their poems printed on our new estate maps or activity leaflets
- each get a £25 gift card for the Ashton Court cafes
How to enter
Entry is free. You can submit your poem online.

Competition terms and conditions
Entries
The competition is open to everyone.
Your poem could be about anything to do with Ashton Court, for example what you love about it, a fond memory, why you think it’s a valuable place.
There’s no word limit. However, the poem will need to fit on one side of A5.
We accept new poems and poems that have been previously published.
As we’ll be publishing the poems, we ask that you do not swear in your poem. We won’t accept any poems that have swearwords in them.
Winner announcement
We’ll contact winners by email before 4 June. Winners will be announced on social media on Friday 4 June 2021.
Prizes
The winner of the under 18 years category will have their poem printed on the back of the activity leaflet, for at least one year from the date it’s published.
The winner of the over 18 years category will have their poem printed on the back of the estate map leaflet, for at least one year from the date it’s published.
Each winner will get a copy of the estate map or activity leaflet that their poem is published on.
The gift cards are valid for one year from the date they’re issued.
