Lantern parade to light up the streets of Bedminster for the 10th time

People from across Bristol will take to the streets tomorrow (Saturday 12 February) to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade.

11 February 2022

Children from 10 local schools will carry thousands of lanterns, while playing music and dancing through the streets of south Bristol. The parade works with local schools, residents and businesses to celebrate the creativity, inclusivity, and community of the BS3 area.

Marvin Rees, Mayor of Bristol, said: “The Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade is an incredible community event and something I have enjoyed attending with my family. Seeing the children’s creativity in lantern-making, and the community spirit on show make it a fantastic event that everyone can enjoy.

“I want to thank the Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade team for all they’ve done to make the event happen this year, bringing the community back together after a difficult time. I would also like to give a special thank you to the Chair of the committee Ade Williams for helping people in Bristol get vaccinated to make events like this possible. While it’s fantastic this event is happening, please remember to do a lateral flow test before attending, and if you have any symptoms of COVID-19 please do not attend this year.”

Ade Williams, Chair of the Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade committee, said: “The 10th Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade will be a truly exciting event, set to bring light, colour, music and creativity to the streets of south Bristol. The past months have been difficult for many in our community, and this celebration is a wonderful chance to bring people back together safely, to feel joy and hope as the beautiful lanterns and talented lantern makers parade our streets. Vibrant community and joint endeavour define south Bristol. We welcome everyone to join in this spectacle and watch on Saturday as Bedminster comes alive!”

The parade will take place on Saturday 12 February, starting at 5pm, with road closures from 4pm. The route starts at Aldi on North Street and makes it way to South Street Park.
