New planning guidance: houses in multiple occupation
We've adopted a new Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) on developing houses in multiple occupation (HMOs).
Following consultation we have decided to adopt the Managing the development of houses in multiple occupation Supplementary Planning Document (pdf, 3.2MB) (opens new window) .
Further details are provided in our Adoption Statement (pdf, 114KB) (opens new window) .
Supporting documents include:
- Consultation Statement (pdf, 589KB) (opens new window)
- Summary of Reg. 13 Representations (pdf, 491KB) (opens new window)
- Evidence Paper (pdf, 1.4MB) (opens new window)
- Strategic Environmental Assessment - Screening Report (pdf, 648KB) (opens new window)
The guidance will support existing Local Plan policy used to decide planning applications for this type of accommodation.
The existing policy aims to encourage balanced communities in Bristol by preventing harmful concentrations of HMOs.
The guidance will help to implement the policy by identifying situations where harmful HMO concentrations might arise.
