Children in care awards
Two awards celebrating the achievements of children in care in Bristol.
Nominations open: 1 July 2020
Closing date: 31 July 2020
Nominees will be announced at the award ceremonies in October 2020.
By nominating a child or young person, you’ll join us as proud corporate parents in celebrating our amazing children.
The awards
EPIC (Exceptional People in Care) Awards for 5 to 17 years olds
The nominee must be:
- aged between 5 to 17 years on Friday 16 October 2020
- in the care of Bristol City Council
There are two age groups for each category for the EPIC awards
- 5 to 11 years old
- 12 to 17 years old
STARS (Strong, Talented, Awesome, Rollercoaster Survivors) Awards for 18 to 25 year olds
The nominee must be
- aged between 18 to 25 years on Friday 23 October 2020
- used to be in care in Bristol City Council
Award categories
Each award has the following categories that you can nominate someone for.
You can nominate one person in several categories. However if they are shortlisted it will only be in one category.
Arts and Creativity
Someone who has accomplished something great in one of the arts (art, music, dance, drama or design).
Amazing Learner
Someone who has exceeded expectations or achieved success in education at school, college, university, apprenticeships or other learning or has made progression at work.
Showing Kindness
Someone who has shown great kindness or has put someone else’s needs above their own.
Amazing Progress
Someone who has achieved or exceeded their expected progress.
Change Maker
Someone who has sought out opportunities to influence change such as amplifying the voice of children in care and care leavers, or has taken responsibility and made a difference for others in their community, education and or work.
Helping others
Someone who has gone above and beyond the call of duty or has cared for someone else or participated in something that resulted in helping others.
Outstanding Achiever
Someone who has sustained their commitment to reach their goal, or for achievement in extracurricular activities, hobbies, clubs, life at home or for helping others to achieve.
Courage
Someone who has shown an act of courage or bravery or who has overcome adversity.
Personal Journey
Someone who has come a long way in their personal journey. Quote from Nelson Mandela ‘do not judge me by my successes, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again’.
Sports Star
Someone who has exceeded expectations or triumphed in sport; tried their hardest to develop their sport or continued participation.
How to nominate someone for an award
You can nominate someone for an award using our online forms.
Anyone can nominate a child in care for an EPIC Award or a care leaver for a STARS Award as long as they were in the care of Bristol City Council.

Guidance
As well as the reason for nominating them, you’ll need to give as much information as possible about the person you are nominating. Such as what they are like as a person, their background or what what they have done.
The more information the judges have the better the chance of being chosen.
