Annual canvass and Household Enquiry Form

Annual canvass and Household Enquiry Form

How to complete the Household Enquiry Form for the 2018 annual canvass.

Every year a Household Enquiry Form (HEF) is sent to all properties in the city to check who is eligible to register to vote. It’s a legal requirement to respond to this form.

If you don’t respond to this form a reminder will be sent and canvassers are sent to visit properties where a form has not been returned.

It’s important to provide the information requested on the HEF. If you don’t you could be fined £1000.

Respond to the HEF

Check and read the whole form carefully before responding.

It's quicker and easier to respond using the online option below and you'll need your two part security code printed on the form.

You can make changes online to the information or to confirm no changes are needed.

Go to and follow the step by step instructions.

You only need to phone to confirm no changes are needed.

Call 0800 197 9871 any time.

When prompted, enter your two part security code.

You only need to text  to confirm no changes are needed.

Text 80212 with NO CHANGE and your security code.

If nobody is eligible to vote, you'll need to include a reason after your security code, for example: empty, business, 2nd home, none or other.

What happens next

If you've confirmed ‘no changes’ by one of the methods above you don't need to do anything else and you don't need to return the form.

Anyone who is added to the form will be sent an 'Invitation to Register Form' so that they can register to vote. You can also register to vote online.

By completing the Household Enquiry Form you are not registering to vote, only confirming the names of people at the property.

If you remove anyone from the form we'll write to you to confirm that they no longer live at the property.

When the new register will be published

The revised Electoral Register will be published on 30 November 2018.

If you have any questions about the electoral register or the annual canvass contact Electoral Services at or call 0117 92 23400.
